PORTION:
COMMENT: Leaves; Seed - raw, cooked like rice or dried and ground into a powder. A very acceptable nutty flavour and texture when raw, they are said to be excellent if the seed is lightly roasted in an oven. Young leafstalks can be added to salads, cooked like spinach or added to soups. Some say all parts are edible, but not a lot of info on that claim.(1)
CAUTION: Contraceptive, pregnant women should avoid. Avoid polluted waters and cook water plants to kill any bacteria or other water-born parasites.
NUTRITION/MEDICINAL: Nuts high in starch.(3) Contraceptive. An infusion of the plant has been used as a contraceptive.(1)
